“You Only Write Once Scholarship Slam”

#YOWO

Colors

There was one moth for the longest

Finally another came

To my light they fluttered

Together, must be lovers

We think of them so ugly

They will soon be gone

After winter, then comes Spring.

The butterfly will flutter,

and be called so beautiful

To think that because a creature lacks in color,

it shall be called ugly.

Its wings the same as a butterfly

yet we still show a moth such hatred.

Funny how this is opposite in the human nature.

For what lacks in color, is seen so beautiful

Yet those with color are put down.

We are discriminated against and laughed at.

For only the deep colors in our skin,

show our ancestry.

Who are we to judge the beauty of God's world?

For he put us here for a reason.

To love each other

Can we at least do that?

Pain,

it hurts.

Yet we do not think of pain when blood is not involved

For I feel the same pain of a knife surpassing the

layers of my skin and muscle

as I feel when my color is hated on.

When my people are hated on,

When my people hate on my color.

How can we love each other, when all we

do is hate each other.

We should be standing together,

hand by hand.

Brothers & sisters.

Giving our thanks to our creator.

But never will that simple wish happen.

We argue over simple minded things.

We curse at the women who bear us.

The women who loved us so much to carry for 9 months.

How can we go on like this?

We kill what he has given us,

blessed us with.

10 simple commandments, yet

we as a people cannot follow them.

Think of who we have turned into.

Can we stand together and reverse this?

If not,

How can we expect any change?
