Colors Are Not the Enemy

Colors are alive.
Even the ones that dye our skin.
White, Black, Brown, Tan:
These colors also make up
The world we live in.
White is the foam of the sea rushing up the shore,
Black is the rich soil that feeds the lush garden,
Brown is the color of camofluage protecting the animals,
Tan are the cliffs that are warmed by the sun.
Why do these colors become threatening
In the pigments of our skin?
It’s not the colors that endanger our society.
People motivated by sick thoughts jeopardize our society.
Not colors.
So let Rosa Parks keep her bus seat.
She’s a lady.
Listen to Dr. Martin Luther King.
He knows what he’s talking about.
Sympathize with Miss Sojourner Truth.
She’s a strong woman with hardships.
They created a movement to prove these things
Providing for equality and protection for all
Those who earned the right with patience and decency
Regardless of the color of their skin.
