Comfortably Beautiful

The quiet hum of crickets in the night
Singing to each other
Talking to each other
Is comfortably beautiful
Like the whisper of your voice against the nape of my neck
It's just you and me
Singing to each other
Talking to each other
So comfortable and beautiful
Without a care in the world
And just like that you're up and out of the bed, walking out that door and walking out of my life
And I just watch, with a sad kindness in my eyes wondering why you would get up and leave
And that sadness in my eyes is the last thing you remember
Those same sad eyes haunt you,
Because you regret it
Because you wanted to stay with her, with me,
But you couldn't, you couldn't allow yourself the chance to make someone happy with you
Because you question yourself "who will ever love me?"
And you leave because you cannot stand the chance of her not being the one
You cannot fathom the thought of life without her because you accepted her beauty and her flaws and everything while on that bed with her
Singing to each other
Talking to each other
And it was all comfortably beautiful
And that was all you needed in life
All you needed in life was her
So comfortable, so beautiful.
