Comforter
While tossing and turning in pure darkness,
Darkness that permeates to the mind,
Escape flees from me;
Sweet sleep abandons my weary eyes.
Fear floods the small space I inhabit.
Anxiety becomes my only companion whispering,
“is there really a life after death?”
“would you even want to live forever?”
Such overwhelming silence deafens me,
But the creak of the revolving fan,
But the pounding in my chest
And the words congesting my head.
Then, I remember you;
Finally plead for you, silently,
In the shadows of my room.
You cast out the dark.
Though I forget you, you never leave me.
You are always there, my Comforter, Jesus.
