Coming Out

I thought of it as a weakness,

Something that would only hold me back.

I always pushed it aside,

Until I found my path.

I told myself it was wrong

And avoided it like the plague.

So when I was questioned,

My answers were always vague.

I never spoke my truth

And I never planned to.

Because for me to say I am

Is a sin, don’t you know?

Instead of going with what they said,

I found my own way.

I thought of it as my weakness

But now, I see it as my strength.

Because for the first time,

I'm coming out to the world.

I’ve grown up

Into this wonderful girl.
