Coming Up Short

The clock ticks on, the world is waiting

We're just a few steps away from graduating.

But these steps are unexpected, the obstacles block the way

Harder than we anticipated, because we cannot pay.

We cannot afford to cross that stage

That's why I'm here too.

Money controlling our future, what an outrage

but we don't know what else to do.

Four years of college, with nothing to show

but an incomplete resume and another bill I owe.

So close yet so far I stand before the court

Wishing, waiting, trying not to come up short.
