Commemoration
Dear Vermilion,
I demand you sink deeper than six feet under
The strain of recollection
I wish the earth’s magma core could melt you from my memory
An orb of static fury
The sound warped from your lips in the shape of deceit
Wish to scrape you off the tips of sharp tongues
Mouths that move to the rhythm of puppet strings
You were sickening and twisted
Manipulative and distant
You cried wolf and I came running
I would never think of torching you the way you set me ablaze
You were a tumor
Horrid, sprouting just beneath the skin of my bruises
Rooted deep enough into the tissue
Tinted…lurid… black and blue
“You’re going to end up alone.”
“You never know what you do wrong.”
Among the many other words that bounced and shattered
On the floor of my bedroom, you wore away the surface of the wood
It was not the only thing you mutilated
I’m not asking for recompense
I want nothing from you but the last word
Sentencing you like a final verdict
Screw you for leaving me to sweep up all of the fragments
In between bloody palms
Screw you for asking me to jump in after you and
Carving holes into my parachute
I’ve long since forgotten to care about you...
Yet, today I remembered
Willing to bet you can no longer even spell my name
Letters best left to drift away from reminiscence
Like smoke from ash
Both these sentences and those
Well, I’m better now
Thank you for not asking.
Sincerely,
Maroon
