Commin' Home Poem

I step through the front door and instantly feel a strange relief,

I take off my shoes and my socks, glad to be rid of them,

I'm finally in a place where I feel I can relax, completely relax,

And not have to fear about my worries and worry about my fears,

The air feels warm, because I've always liked warmth more than the cool,

It is slightly dark, because I've found I like darkness more than the light,

When I close my eyes, I hear an ending silence,

Then, all of the sound comes to me and the mess comes to realization,

I am no longer living, alone; there are beloved strangers with me,

I've just gotten back, but my children have always been here,

I can see their energy floating in the air around them,

See that innocent curiosity in their eyes, wherever they look,

And hear the laughter about ready to come out of their throat,

I hear his footsteps and the door I've just entered opens, again,

My husband comes, through the door,

And my silence is gone, never anymore,

In this place, my loves are all here,

I can see memories, frozen in time, hanging in chosen spots on the wall,

Of things that have never happened,

I love my home,

Too bad it doesn't exist
