Commonalities

It is said we are all free. Free to vote, free to be A man or woman or something between. But are we all really free? There are still walls and fortifications That still divide our nation. There is no such thing as race, For it is just an idea in place Of misunderstandings and ignorance That people use to take their stance Against one another Instead of treating them as a brother. Gender too makes people squirm For anyone different is seen as a worm. Again it is the lack of acceptance That make us different at a glance. But everyone has the capacity to love And not put petty differences above The fact we share more commonalities Than we do reasons for brutalities.
