Ten girls.
Hundreds of endless hours.
Thousands of beads of sweat trickling down tired bodies.
but its all worth it.
Now is the time that actions speak louder than words.

We are Color guard.
You enter as an individual at the beginning of the season,
you leave the season as a team-no- a family.
We grow fond of one another-
love and care for each other as if we ARE family.

Close your eyes. Take a deep breath.
Breath out with the bad-
dropping tosses, forgetting work, injuries
and in with the good-
perfect timing and a flawless performance
The judges give the signal,
Its now or never.

The conditions are always different;
some fields are freshly cut and easy to manage,
some fields are covered in muddy holes just waiting to trip you up.
Performing in the day brings the sun in your eyes, while,
performing at night brings the bright lights of the stadium.
Wait...whats that?
thousands of cheering fans waiting to see you.
You must not disappoint your fans.
or You. Have. Failed.

It has taken you two weeks in the summer,
three days a week for four months, and
twelve Friday night football games to get to this point.
Countless hours for ten minutes of field time.
Ten minutes.
But, I wouldn't trade those ten minutes for the World.

Your first performance it a tough one.
Actually, every performance is tough.
Butterflies fill your stomach by the dozens,
the steady beat of your heart races faster and faster, you think you might faint.
But when you step off that field and you know you gave it your all-
there is nothing, and i do mean Nothing
that can replace the feeling of having a great show-
knowing you have successfully entertained your audience.

It's November, you have done it.
The season is over and you have been successful.
You have gained new skills, made new friends, and just find yourself feeling proud and happy.
It is sad to realize the season is over,
But hey, you always have next year!

These memories I will never forget, this poem is based off of my experiences as a member of Color GUard
