Completing the Circle
Young and naïve we are acknowledged,
Helpless and hopeful we crawl without care.
As Priestly breathed a breathe of pure knowledge
We can find admiration in the air.
We look for wonder striving to perceive,
Unable to see the vast human err.
We do take common worries — just as thieves
Only concerned with minuscule details.
What we're told is all we know to believe,
Still learning what infancy can entail.
Yet every day something new we discover
And every day something new we inhale.
Wiser than some yet our minds hover
Knowledge we possess unlike another.
No longer relying on someone's key
Now others are found relying on us.
Self-sufficient and independent we
Have formed our own lives nevertheless.
Day after day we take life for granted
Just like Madoff, made off we do digress.
Caught up in our dreams—we become self slanted
Only worrying about the end, not
What matters, as if we have recanted.
We think we're living life deep in thought
But our minds don't work the same as before.
Vision blurred—we can't detect life's blind spot
We think we're living life to the fullest for
What is truly the fullest anymore?
Worn and weary, resting our fragile heads
We have come full circle, now with new eyes.
See a needle can hold, beauty embed
Exploring life just as a bird flies.
Our soul becomes young again valuing all,
Devious and genius telling imp lies.
Much like White is callow at heart, we stall
All thoughts of our nearing end—then no more.
Jovial ways fade—rapt with mental haul,
Awakening we fear coping prewar.
Through our struggle we refuse to admit
What lies fore. Optimistic days of yore
Keep us insouciant. Looping back it
Humbles with wisdom of the youth and aged spirit.
