complexion reflection

Color of the skin
Neither lose nor win
This wasn’t about triumph
Nor david verse goliath
This was about standing for what is right
For what is human
A plight
Not futile
But useful
For when he said I have a dream
A reverberant scream
Rushed through the souls or the people
Who declared, we are equal
And there was nothing feeble
In sitting down
To stand up
To end the signs plaguing each and every town
To create a nation void of segregation, polarization.
For whoever touted
Or shouted
Land of the white,
No this is land of the bright
The genius that transcends
Color, race, dividends,
We are the country
Not of the gentry
But the poor who do not fight for more but for the same not to be tame, not to live in shame,
To cry out, we, all of us, will never appear identical
But we can extend an arm, hand, a tentacle,
To live in a land where
We not only survive, but thrive
Where we are not color blind
But we remind
Ourselves of who we were
And that we have the choice to be
Black, white, red, blue, and free
