The Complexity of Time
Every night I lay my head down
On the same pillow,
And in the same place.
Right down the street
From where I have spent
The majority of my life.
I can still spend time at that house,
But not with those who built it.
Time runs out for all of us eventually,
And it wrecks the future worldly plans
Of those of us left behind.
The healing of emotional wounds has no timetable,
And time is a virtue.
I spent 9 years down the street
With one of the most magnificent women
To ever live.
I still remember every detail of the day
That turned my perfect childhood upside down,
And I will always regret the side hug
I gave my grandmother
As I rushed out the door
To go to a birthday party
For a girl I’m barely friends with anymore.
Regret has no timetable,
And time is a virtue.
I spent 18 years down the street
With a man whom I viewed as invincible.
I loved every smart remark he would make
And every witty comeback he would have.
However I know eventually
Those memories of my granddad
Will become fuzzy to me,
Just as the memories of my grandmother have.
Grief has no timetable,
And time is a virtue.
It is 1 AM;
All I want right now is more time
With my grandparents.
And when I wake in the morning,
All I will want is more time to sleep.
But isn’t it funny,
That all sleeping does is pass time —
Time that I desperately long for,
But continue to waste.
The pursuit of contentment has no timetable,
And time is a virtue.
9 years with one;
18 years with the other.
Very few houses between us;
Countless memories that all run together.
We think we have forever,
But there is no forever o’clock.
Understanding this universe has no timetable,
And time is a virtue.
Time is inescapable
No matter how you spend it.
Time is powerful
No matter how you look at it.
All of our lives have an unknown timetable,
And time is a virtue.
However, one day the struggle with time will cease to exist,
Because we will have an infinite amount of time
With a God that IS forever.
It is true
That life is hard and then you die,
But only in the physical sense.
And when the moment of physical death comes,
We will no longer need a timetable,
And time will no longer be a virtue.
