Composition

I'm not unique

in these actions or words or thoughts or feelings.

How could I be?

How many times have others ever pressed this key?

Am I repeating the past crowds'

unoriginal solo?

Others have said this out loud,

using these same notes

and these same chords

and these same tones.

Others have sounded better too:

impressive, memorable and strong.

Why should I try to continue

when I'm just tagging along?

This is dissonant déjà vu.

This illusion of innovation has won

but it's not done.

I put this chord with that note in this rhythm.

This tone in that volume, these with them.

I write and erase.

I put this beat with this phrase.

It will just be the same...

No! That won't be the case!

I play my song with my keys at my speed.

I perform my own music with my feelings.

It's not what I do

or what I use

or the things

I think

that must be unique.

It's which I choose

and how they're used

to make our masterpieces

complete.
