composure
because it’s more amazing watching someone fight back tears
than watching them cry.
because it’s more exhilarating trying to contain your laughter
than laughing out loud.
because it comes in clenched fists
and tears that do not fall
and muffled giggles
and twitches of a smile
and the sudden inability to make eye contact
and the swallowing of anger
and deep, calming breaths.
because, even though you know it’s healthy to feel anything,
you’re not sure if you’re ready to feel just yet.
