Confine Me
White walls stained gray
Move closer, inch by inch,
Day by day suffocate me.
Mistakes of the past confine me
Iron bars twist light
Cast shadows by my feet.
Tainted blue and black,
The shadows never move
Only take new form
As the world outside changes,
But never touches,
This shattered place.
Drop by drop rain
Drips down the single pane of glass;
It’s iron bars mock me
I am caged.
Hours melt as days eclipse,
Seconds slip through bars;
Perpetual light
Encloses fate in this cell.
Deafened by silence,
Consumed by exhaustion,
The chair waits.
In a room with white walls stained gray
laugh at the calendar pages-
red x’s through the days.
Two lefts and three rights
From where I lie now
One of a few will sit in that chair.
Ever since that November day,
The chair has owned me.
Those faces haunt me
Like iron bars
They sign for my death,
Unanimous in pursuit of the light,
In the name of good
Giving me to the chair.
