A conformed culture

My name is JaQuiatta

Conformity is getting anxiety every time I think about it

Culture is never speaking of that anxiety

My middle name is Deneice

Conformity is changing that spelling for years and going by my middle name

Culture is being ashamed that I am ashamed subconsciously

My last name is Posey

Conformity is not caring about the meaning behind it

Culture is being proud and embarrassed that it’s my dads last name

Anxiety is being scared he will see this poem

Conformity would be adding in hella black girl names to get a snap clap pat on the back and a Speak Poet!

Culture is holding those names dearly and wishing I was proud enough to say them

Anxiety is calling my friends by the wrong name in front of the wrong people

Anxiety is that small panic I get when someone calls me my first name when I now go by Jayee

Anxiety is when someone calls me my middle name and I know what time of my life they knew me and that I don’t have to conform anymore

Anxiety is going by Jayee

Conformity is going by Jayee

Anxiety is staying up deliberating if I actually like the name Jayee or if conformity is my lifelong best friend

Conformity is asking culture why
