Confused? I know the truth.

It been nearly a year, but the pain feels like it’s the beginning. The memories still remain horrid nightmares, never ending. The tears rest on the edges of my eyes from every thought of what we had. We sit here full of sorrow while those around us remain joyful, regretless, and glad. How can they pull me away, isolating me from your heart? Continuously telling me it will be easy, yet it is extremely hard. They say it is for the best, the further I am from you. But you are part of me, so what am I to do? Am I supposed to act like nothing is wrong, like I never changed? Or are you supposed to remain a part of me, where everything is the same? Am I to move on, and never look back? Or do you give up because it is faithfulness you lack? Do I stab you, betray you, killing you inside? Because that is what happened to me due to the truth you couldn’t hide. Do I lie to you straight to your face, and laugh? And when you cry, try to take the hurt back? Do I blame my mistakes on the other culprit, as if I was never there? Or do I say I wasn’t in the right state of mind, and act like I don’t care? And once you realize that I will never change, I’ll ask you for one more chance. Because you are naïve and I have slick words, leaving you in my hands. No, I won’t do any of those things because I wouldn’t want to lower myself. Instead I’ll walk away, because I’m strong and independent, and I don’t need your help. I know you only say the things you want me to hear. But I know where your mind is, and it is losing me you can’t bear. But I am my own person, and you’re a lesson well learned. And when I leave, I won’t want you, but it will be me for who you yearn. Are you confused? Because I know the truth. I have a future, that doesn’t include you.

I wrote this poem about a previous relationship that had broken me and caused me to fall into a dramatic state of depression. Because of the guy in this poem I began cutting and trying to commit suicide. I have been hospitalized and changed and completely manipulated. However, because of this guy, i have became stronger and more cautious. I have grown.
