Constancy

Maybe it's the way I was brought up? Although not by nurturing parents But with what my eyes saw as a child My Mum and Dad the cruel assailants. Maybe it's what I've learned over the years? Perhaps it's all the words that I've heard? No one can accuse me of not ever caring Cos I know in my heart what I've shared. Possibly it's a reckoning I had with myself? The younger me got it all wrong Now I know that it takes courage to live Live the way I should have all along. Values and virtues I won't compromise Honesty and trust I won't betray Faithful and dependable is my way of life There's nothing wrong with constancy. I'd rather be faithful and trustworthy Than someone with something to hide If I give you my word, I give you my trust And I say that with sincerity and pride. Believe what you will, think what you like But don't doubt what you won't let me prove I offer everyone who enters into my life Genuine honest 100% truth. Never will I be unfaithful or betray anyone Never will I make you feel small I never will belittle a living soul With me you will proudly stand tall. My shape might be distorted to your shallow eye But my values and integrity are intact It's not in appearance that stands before you a man But with respect, that's how a real man should act. Open your eyes and look very closely Listen to the beat of your heart The depth of your soul will help you realise That it's time you had a fresh start. Constancy is a respectable notion I am happy that that's how I am One day maybe you'll understand That I'm just a loving kind hearted man.
