Constellations

Dear Dustin,

she sat alone

bare feet stretched outward

gazing up at the sky

reaching

her arm stretched outward

feeling the cool air

her fingertips traced the constellations

connecting the stars to one another

people, she thought

were like constellations too

each one, millions of miles from another

until someone came and connected the dots

her eyes reflecting the cosmos around her

her skin glowed

soaking in the radiance of the moon

she was a star

burning up

floating aimlessly in the void

someday, she thought

she would be a constellation too
