The Construction Site of Us

What hurts the most is how we left things

Dust is gathering on the cranes

And the construction hats are buried in the dirt

Everything we had built is still standing

Because you never told me to tear it down

A half-finished home for a future we won’t have

And this is what it feels like in my mind

The weeds are overgrown because I haven’t visited in awhile

And the wood for the swing you promised to build is rotting

This is the saddest place I know

I planted your favorite flowers there in case you ever visited

I don’t think you ever did

I’m not sure you ever will

- Knowing this hurts quite a bit as well
