Consuming Light

Shouts shatter the stillness of silence

As the sky burns suddenly with terrifying force

The flash of white engulfs the populace

The angel of death rides on its rays

Dreary, dropping, dreadful, and deadly

Upon this light of oblivion it flies

The heavens roar with consuming might

The very sky falls down

Deep and rumbling, destroying all upon

The face of the land, leaving a lingering death

A stench, a stop, a stuttering speck of life

As flesh turns to ash, people's time halts

Life sputters and dies like a flame in the wind

The children cry out and adults mourn

Pain is tangible on the broken breeze

Despair overcomes all other feelings then

A great many lights fall

Salt loses taste and is cast out

Marks if progression disappear into the void

Flagrant fires of hell burn with unstoppable strength

Left in wake is a remaining poison

That leaves the land barren and black

Lives were lost and successes undone

An entire city dies at the turning key

A listless name in the annals of history

A cratered death on the face of our "Eden"

Another sacrifice for a truth

The consuming light claims another
