Contained
The display of weakness is a most feared enemy.
We strive so hard to be the strongest of them all.
To be seen as heroes in our times of struggle.
Our hearts and will have begun to stall.
The battles we fight are killing the heart.
But we remain intact to show all others.
That even in defeat we might be victors.
And the heart and will become shallower
Our minds are set to stone when at war.
Our bodies punished to endure the worst.
We believe that life is cruel and a lonely road.
Until eventually we find we are cursed.
We find ourselves alone in life,
constantly fighting to find peace.
We are battered, bruised, and lost.
Till at last we are on our knees.
There is a lesson in life we don’t see.
It is possibly the true path to be free.
But requires acceptance of defeat,
and in our battles… retreat.
Lay down the sword, shield, and bow.
Return to the fields and grow,
Our hearts, will, and mind.
And learn again to be kind.
Not only to all others, but include yourself.
Take all those weapons back to the shelf.
Remember who are, forget bad memories.
And listen to the song of your life’s melody.
Learn to cry, live to love
Withdraw the hate, release the dove.
Draw the sword, only to defend
your happiness, without end.
You are your own
a hero already
for even the greatest
weren’t always steady
