I’m engulfed by a shadow, which hangs over my head. The oblivion can be soothing, but is often accompanied by dread. I hide from what I’ve learned, and seek what can’t be found. The sunlight is oppressive, while the darkness is profound. I know the rareness of stability, as I’ve not yet attained foundation. I attempt to exude confidence, but I’m hindered by trepidation. Worse, it seems every step forward means I’ll be taking two steps back. What I thought I’d gained in the past is proving to be what I still lack. I lie here, eyeing the carpet floor, considering the woodwork hidden beneath. It’s out of sight and out of mind, I guess, to everyone excluding me. It reminds me of the life I live, always hiding within my shell. I try to be as the world expects, but I’ll only ever be myself.
