A Continuation of Life
Feet across the pavement,
walking all over the scalding tar
over the mud,
the gracious sands
over soft grass and open meadows.
a woman’s arms spread out, like wings,
over the creatures of the spring.
twirling, twirling, twiriling.
a strong laugh
and she is falling,
quick.
rolling down the hill,
towards me.
through harsh winters
with purple scarfs rolled up to chins,
cheeks stung by the whisling winds
and racing rain.
Through stumbing through the door
and towards the fire place.
Placing one piece of wood on,
then another,
Building a small house,
for hope to reside.
Soon a fire rages,
a family sits
quietly.
A moment of peace,
a daughter’s head resting
on her father’s shoulder
the gracious glow of warm
dancing through the window
into the darkness of the night.
a foot,
a foot
and another.
through the falling of the leaves
through the whisper of the summer heat.
a crunch through the snow
and then another
All the way to Sicily
for my love.
Pomegrantes moving slowly onto
the branches of the spring.
my dear, Persephone
walking towards me.
