Contradictions and Conundrums

When school's in full wake

I struggle to awake

Are clock alarms forms of torture?

I must labor tirelessly all day

Despite my tendency to get tired

Is sleep my real enemy?

I work eight hour shifts in earnest

Though my bank account does not shift

Is my report card the paycheck?

I am friendly towards all my peers

Yet rarely do I spy a friend

Is this smile my disguise?

I gaze at teachers in class

But I only learn when I'm engaged

Is it up to me to survive?
