contrast

Words on a page

Can convey more than my mouth

Ever could

For some reason

My lips and teeth and tongue

Clash with the beating of my

Heart and mind’s war over

What to say next moreover

The grab-bag of tones

Expressions

Timing

Euphemisms

That make everything I say

That much more hard to decipher

What I’m trying to mean.

Poems have taught me to

Handpick every

Adverb

Noun

Conjunction

With care and to listen

To what I say and where

I say it and see who

Will hear it and how

They will take it

They have shown me a

Contrast to my logical and

Methodical life

One that makes everything just

So much more

Colorful.
