waves, an open dark ocean
glinting, shiny marine expanse
of its aura of painful exclusion.

Grouped, a multitude of reds and oranges
Together on the sunflower

further in the field
the lonely blue butterfly
suffered in silence
slowly disintegrating
as the loneliness took its toll.

why?

Intimidating, fierce
Flaming swatting strength
Smooth, ink abdomens
Antennas twitch thick and blunt.

whereas-
the "other"
exquisite detailed sky
found on its wings
dainty, fragile art
entirety carved like diamond
the lonely blue butterfly outishined them all.

nevertheless,
it was alone.
an outsider
condemned by difference.
