Control Perception

Control perception

That is what they taught me in school

Receive the warm reception

This is the most fatal rule

Smile, refine elegance

Be what people want to see

Cute exterior masks intelligence

Don't portray who you want to be

Years of acting

Years of lies

Patience exacting

Den of spies

You lose yourself

Who is behind the mask?

Friendships and joy placed back on the shelf

Trusting others, the most betraying task

Holding all the broken pieces trying to stay strong

You taught me it’s okay to be weak

So paradoctal to the broken record song

It’s the real me you seek

What happens if I give you the shards to hold?

Will you break them more?

This act is most courageous and bold

Will you be different than the ones before?

Because I love you I trust you my dear

Behind the cracked mask you peer

My heart races whenever you come near

And I never question you, most sincere
