Controlled Chaos

We're a mess We're a mess of pulling apart And clinging together A fight between loyalty And familiarity Between longing for the old And hope for the new We're magnets Whose opposite ends face But still try to act Like two Norths Or two Souths We've got one hand chained And the other Reaching across a gap We don't dare to close We're red and blue Trying desperately not to meld into the purple That we once were A careful line between the two That we strain across We're a mess of pain And regret And sorrow We're a mess of what ifs And a future lost We're a mess of love A mess of need A mural of what could've been
