Convincing Myself

My words are strong?

Your words are just as strong.

But you will never know…

The strength of your words,

Or at which potency your words leveled me

Rendering me beaten and bruised,

At the mercy of your verbal abuse;

I swallowed my tears

But believe me

Your words did not chase my tears

I shot those tears without a chaser

I have become immune

To the strength of strong words

Since, they frequent me

As often as my favorite poison.

As I swallowed the embarrassment

And expertly choked down the lump lodged in my throat

(Momentarily speechless)

I realized as I pondered the situation

Desperate for an out,

I was at fault.

The bottles of poison surrounding you,

Were labeled

With the potency of acceptance contained within each bottle;

 I just failed to understand

You were just as generic,

And weak in potency,

As the rest of the bottles surrounding you

Until moments ago,

Before I digested your contents,

I had failed to realize

I was experiencing a scam;

However, you are disguised no more.

Who will you scam now?
