Coretta Scott King Prologue

She was only Coretta Scott before, Marriage was opened by its precious door. Many know her as Mrs. Martin King, But she gained that name with a wedding ring. 5 She was an exemplary mom and wife, Throughout her long and adventurous life. She was a lady blessed with dignity, Power, love, respect, and mostly beauty. She stood by her husband during the rain, 10 Knowing that she must endure through the pain. Believed her husbands work would make sunshine, On the day blacks could sit with whites and dine Peacefully without walking to the back. If they did then they’d be under attack. 15 Her husband was shot and killed on the porch, Of his hotel room passing her the torch. For the Civil Rights Movement could not stop Because her husbands lifeless body dropped. Although Coretta could have sat and screamed 20 And could have demolished her husbands dream. She continued to fight for what was right. Held her head up and kept on smiling bright. Throughout the years Martin’s dream was fulfilled. And blacks in America had hearts filled 25 With joy to finally have equal rights. Soon Coretta’s kind soul could take a flight And be at peace with her husband at rest. Knowing this was what she wanted the best, Flying up and away was her last goal. 30 And finally she became God’s angel.
