On the Corner
I walked down to
the store
I got myself
a lottery ticket
The cute cashier smiled
while I handed over the money
I felt like winking,
but I couldn’t
I walked out and
waited on a corner
I scratched it with a nickel
and sang:
“Time to feel
lucky again”
There was a puddle between
the sidewalk and the street
A bus stormed by, through
the puddle, soaking me
I could have had
winning numbers
I went back into the store,
dripping... thinking:
“Time to feel
lucky again”
