Cornered

I am blinded by walls and windows

to the friendliness of the earth.

Her breezes whisper for me

to come and quit my home

and savor the sun's ever-increasing splendor,

to bask in its wide, white glow.

But I strong-headedly stay

in my merry little corner,

where adventure is just a wish

for another day

and excitement even farther.

All because I fail to see

that youth, and cool, crisp glory

can be achieved

within a few steps

outside that shelter.
