A Corpse Friend

I must stay quiet

I must stay still

To avoid the enemy's gaze

I must stay here

and wait in fear

In a dusty, bullet-filled haze

I have my knife

ready to fight

If the enemy draws too near

I lay like dead

I calm my breathe

And wait for the firing to clear

A man falls in

and I wait not

I stab him in the neck

He makes gurgles

Blood fills his lungs

He's not dead, atleast not yet

A while or so

He passes on

And I'm left alone again

I lay alone

In a shell hole

With only a corpse as a friend
