The Correlation of Body And Mind

I am beginning to learn
To be kind to myself before dinner,
That the magic incantations
"Food is fuel, your body needs food"
Don't always help,
But sometimes they do.

I am beginning to learn
To be comfortable with the space between my thighs
Or maybe the lack thereof.
I am beginning to learn
That beauty doesn't have a weight requirement,
And neither does happiness.

I am beginning to learn
That I was not born to be a skeleton,
And that I can bloom every day.

I am beginning to learn
That self-care does not mean selfish,
And that I can forgive my body
Because my body has forgiven me.
I am beginning to learn that
Just because I am emptying myself
Does not mean that I am empty,
Because in fact, I am full of life and love.

I am learning
to let my support system become my guide dogs
Because although I wear contacts,
I cannot see what they see.

I am beginning to learn,
That self-love does not come in one day-
Maybe it cannot happen in one lifetime,
But every day I learn,
And every day I grow,
Every day I am a better version of who I was before,
Every day I am recovering.
