Cotton Candy Sunset

A dusty dirt road with our favorite music playing on the stereo.

Two friends talking about everything and nothing at the same time.

An old Subaru bouncing down the road only running on a sense of adventure.

A cotton candy sunset forming in the sky. Pink clouds slowly moving in the breeze bright enough to match her cheeks.

Two cans of soda splashing in cup holders, but no one sees.

All eyes are facing out the window, gazing at the sun or watching through the trees

A cotton candy sunset filling up the air.

Past an old field stands a tall oak tree, all alone for just us to see.

Driving slower then coming to a stop, at the dusty dead end of the dusty dirt road.

Turn the lights off the car as we sit at the border drinking sodas for two.

A cotton candy sunset fades into night.

I'm a Grad student now studying Biochemistry and Biophysics (not sure how I got there). I guess I've been using this site for nearly 8 years now though sometimes I went years without writing much of anything. I write what I feel and I write what I need to let go of. Sometimes I write about a dream or a nightmare I had, If I can tell the difference. I fell in love for poetry in high school and continued to write in college. I hope to publish a book someday as well (leave a comment if a poem speaks to you). P.S. My Instagram is @CottonCandyPoems
