Cough & Cold

I wake at midnight to the sound of myself.

Holding every breath

  -it's no use.

Can't breathe.

Cant sleep.

It barks out of me like a rabid dog.

Every

time

I

feel

comfort-

-able

Surprise!

I'm dying again.

Every train of thought

interrupted by the violent throws

of my lungs contortioning.

I drink this,

I drink that.

Everyone seems to know the cure,

and just as I let my mind

sail into sleep

it's 6:30 again.

Time for work.
