Could have, would have, should have
As I was going to the market
There was a child walking with bare feet
I could have given him some shoes
Why didn’t he get out of the street?
There was an old lady standing on the corner
You could tell she didn’t have a dime
I would have offered her some money
But I didn’t have much time
I saw another woman being robbed
Why was she walking alone?
I should have called the cops
But I was already using my phone
As I was waiting to pay for me items
A person in line couldn’t pay for her hash
I could have given her a few bucks
But I work too hard for my cash!
Then when I went to church
They had the nerve to ask for tithes
I would have put in more than fifty cents
But there was so much that I wanted to buy
I should have prayed for my pastor
And whoever else that I did see
But while I’d be praying for them
Who would be praying for me?
I noticed in the parking lot
That a woman’s car wouldn’t start
I could have given her a jump
But I didn’t have the heart
I saw a child being chased
By a big old dog in the park
I should have done something to help
But it was getting kind of dark
Then as I was driving home
My car ran out of gas
Many could have come to my rescue
But they just kept on driving past
I decided to walk to the station
It was very cold that day
Maybe someone would give me a hand
Somewhere along the way
There were many who could help
I could see it in their eye
But no one would stop
They just kept on driving by
I died out there that night
I didn’t have on warm clothes
And it was so chilly
That my whole body froze
I wonder if I would have helped others
If I would have had the same fate
I could have, should have, would have
But now it is too late!
