Counterpart

Life can be a war

And it’s good to know that

You have someone at your back

She’s a born fighter

Tough, strong, stubborn,

Too stubborn sometimes

We make it work

Resolving our differences, large and small,

 with compromise

Because I’m pretty stubborn too

We have a few arguments

But we handle them well

We sing show tunes as we leave band

Or talk about the novels we’re writing

We’ll talk about what we want from life one day

She listens to my problems as I cry

I comfort her through her anxiety

We help each other with our problems

But sometimes we sit apart

Each with our different friends

At the end of these times, however

I give her my full attention and love
