couple's therapy 2 (1/13/21)
if you find yourself committed, then
know this: you must smile for every camera at the
vanilla cake wedding. romanticize the way our house
fries and fizzles upon its burning. i remember lying
to myself and in bed at our nightly date, bloody and
spinning on your sick pottery wheel, spit bubbled and
staring, a bumbling baby swaddled, seeing how the
fairy lights on my ceiling kaleidoscoped and twisted
in glitter glue moves, glassy in teary eyed monotony. it’s
hard to adore some days for the sake of sick: you get
glimpses of them in the mirror at first daylight. i hate
our gaudy rings, their rigid expectations, the way they
glitter and glisten, yelling and throwing chrome vases
under the light of the moon--no. for the sake of our
marriage. for the sake of our commitment, we stayed
so long.
