Courting A Wanton Flame

You earthly souls that court a wanton flame

Whose pale weak influence

Can rise no higher than the humble name

And narrow laws of sense

Flames that are kindled by the eye

Through time and age expire

But ours that boast a reach far higher

Can nor decay, nor die

Weak love through fortune or distrust

In time forgets to burn

But this pursues us to the urn

And marries either's dust

We are all courting a wanton flame

See and believe me do, I am speaking for everyone

We are all forming, and many thwarting a wanton chain

These words believe and concieve please do

Can we rise no higher than the hateful shame?

Branded we woefully are, with a suffering name

Blames that are kindled, by an ill-fed thought

But hours that host a breach far shyer, can easily decay, and die

(unfinished)
