Cover Art

On the shelf

waiting for someone

to pick me up

and open the page

to speak to me first

before i say a word

i like it like that

when you see my cover

but look inside too

admiring every detail

you read my story

and don't skim the pages

patiently waiting

for me to speak

or forever hold my peace

which i might do if

you don't help me along

giving me something to

hold on to, and reach

for the next word, sentence

paragraphs flow and i start to

gain rhythm, telling my story

engraving hope into my pages

and slowly, i write more.

and what you see

turns into a skech, a layer

then two. brushes, and soft strokes

lines, hard and defined

confident in being

you create for me

an image, to admire

the cover of my story
