Covering Me

We use filter to cover up our blemishes,

Both physical and mental.

Who wants to see a girl without make up on,

Bearing her acne scars and enlarged pores?

Who wants to read an emotional caption,

From a clinically depressed and anxious teenage girl?

Instagram allows us to hide the pain.

The filters allow us to hide our imperfections.

Instead of exposing who I really am,

Frizzy-haired, Anxious, Dry-skinned, Depressed

On social media,

I add a fancy covering on top of my already edited picture,

And add a cute emoji to maybe make myself seem...

Happy.
