A Cowards Way Out

The pain beneath my ribs never seem to fade

Hours upon hours go, of endless tears

I thought I could finally trust?

I thought I could finally share?

Why must i keep these scabs unpicked, forced to stare at the ugliness of my wounds

no chance of it ever fading

Do they not care? How many nights i spent

wishing, praying, I could be one of them

one of the people they considered home

I feel like I will never be anyone's person

It scares me worse than death, living a life full of isolation

The whispered words feel like a razorblade running across my fingertips

I wanna run up and confront

Ask them how they can be so cruel when they assume nobody hears

But i am far too scared, frightened of their lack of regret

I will be shamed into hiding once again

Perhaps it is easier to feign ignorance

to paint a smile on my face and act like I was never hurt

It would be better than facing the fact that I have no one to treat me true

Living in lies is sometimes easier than laying with the truth
