Cowboy Love
Your face is bright
like the sun.
Exuberant joy proclaiming.
An exclamation emerging.
From your lungs
a tune
loud and bold
soft and true.
Gentle words speaking
love.
Resting on your head
shielding your face
from the lights dancing above.
A suede black hat
worn by ranchers
and country music stars
seen in those old western films.
Reminiscent of my younger years
watching John Wayne
in old picture shows.
Listening to the sweet songs
of George Strait and Garth Brooks
ringing through my childhood home.
Soft blue-green eyes
gaze across our table at me.
That sweet smile
I've loved for so long
traced by a brown and black
stubble beard.
The collar from your black button up
hugs your neck.
The chain from your silver cross necklace
peaking from between buttons.
Worn blue jeans
hug your hips
and drape over top your cowboy boots
complimented by
chestnut-brown leather belt
held tight by a buckle
Engraved
with pictures telling
unspoken stories.
I look down and see
stretched out
a calloused hand
a black steel ring too
eagerly waiting for mine in return.
So effortlessly
whisked onto my feet
and across this wooden floor.
One hand rests
on the small of my back
and the other in my hand.
I wrap my arms around you.
Swaying together
as southern love song melodies
sing above us two.
A kiss here
a kiss there
as we glide across the floor
While you
whisper sweet nothings
in my ear.
We feel like a country music song
heard on the radio.
Clanking inside me
like an iron bell at supper time
my love.
My own.
My better half.
My husband.
