Crack

Crack.

This is a sound I'll never forget.

It echoed over the drizzle outside;

It drowned out the yelling of my coworkers.

That crack rebounds through my life.

It wedges between who I was,

and who I am.

My sould carries the sound

--the deafining crack--

our patient had died.

but not for long.

You never forget the crack,

that comes with CPR.

All the ribs shatter under your hands,

and a life is changed.
