A Cracked Mirror

To: The Innocent

As a child you run and play

without a care as to the week

or even the day.

Age is an idea that makes one meek,

just the suggestion sweeps one from their feet.

The mind and eyes are young,

a glance in the mirror is blurry

age works it’s magic in such a hurry,

some may view a more pure and pleasing image

while the cracks deny others the true beauty.

When the cracks turn to shatters

the view begins to turn hazy

the question may enter your mind

“Is this even worth my time?”

The more blows delivered to your mirror,

the harder it becomes to stand and stare.

Please just let me shut my eyes

even if it is the last time.

Then the mirror will disappear.
