Cracking The Glass
Safely inside my crystal shell
I lay my heart to keep.
From the cruel hands of the world
which dreams haunt me as I sleep.
A tinted glass as time did pass
led most to look away.
Which is what I wanted
for my heart, so it could
no longer feel the pain.
And the tinted glass grew dark,
as the heart felt cold and alone,
I tried to deny these feelings were
of my own.
The day came with furious rain
that lightened the dirty glass.
That caused me to look away beyond
my guarding path.
A glass as tinted as mine with a heart
just as hurt, full, and able. Let out
an essence so divine, that totally turned
the tables.
I quickly shook you out of my mind,
my shielded part full of discontent.
I was not about to allow my glass to clean and
break after all the time that I spent.
Yet you persisted and pleaded to let you
a small way near. Then against all my will,
my heart began to hold you dear.
Slowly but surely my shell grew clean and
started to quake. And with each shard of glass
that fell, fled memories of heartbreak.
Then the safety I felt within the weak dark dome.
became nothing in comparison to
which the safety your love has shown.
I gladly own the heart of my own that once again
started to beat. The symphony you caused
which on occasions makes me skip a
note an has me dancing in the streets.
These verses not touched by hand or mind, but
of what you now hold. Let this show truth to a story
but so many times told. Be it wind or rain, I will show you
my love as you love me, so bold.
