Hiding

The silence of pain is most terrifying

It seeps into everything

Tainting it with a hint of fear

A terror that never fails to exist

And yet most squabble in this silence

For, to speak is to be a coward

And the mind dreams of wondrous things

In order to hide the truth

But sometimes the imagination fails

And we wish once again to fall asleep

For we fully absorb the realization

That no one cares; we are the dregs of society

Our faces are trained to smile

To smile, yes, through the pain

Sadly, we are quite good at it

And we smile, though we feel no true mirth

When our smile fails, we are most vulnerable

For behind our mask is the truth

No one sees it, however

Because they don’t wish to dig that deep

We fear the truth but we love our oppressors

Because in our minds we are supposed to

We make excuses and blame ourselves

So as to hide from the truth

We suffer in silence

For ours is an eternal pain

We hate who we are

And there is only one thing we crave

We crave the observant one

The person who sees past our facades

Someone who asks questions

And someone who cares

If only someone would notice

This poem is about:
Our world
